DIGITAL PRINTS BY BLA23R
This project was born out of necessity.
For years, many of these images existed primarily as tattoo designs: drawings created to eventually become part of somebody's body.
I wanted to give them another possible life.
Not replacing the tattoo, but allowing the image to exist independently from it.
On paper. On a wall. In somebody's collection.
That became DP: DIGITAL PRINTS BY BLA23R.
The project is divided into two different systems.
COMPOUND DP is the evolving edition.
Only 10 copies of each design are produced across six sizes, from A6 to A1. Every design begins at a predetermined price, and after each copy is purchased, the price of the next one doubles.
At the same time, the artwork itself begins to change.
The first prints remain closer to their original digital form. As the edition progresses, I manually adorn and alter the later prints, creating different skins, details and variations throughout the life of the edition.
The increasing price therefore accompanies an increasingly transformed physical object.
Early collectors enter at the beginning.
Later collectors receive another stage of the work.
When the tenth copy disappears, that COMPOUND DP edition ends permanently.
GOOD OL’ DP follows a more traditional system.
The artwork is printed on 160gr paper, signed and released in six sizes from A6 to A1, with only 5 copies available for each size.
No evolving price structure.
No progressive transformation.
Just the image, the paper, the signature and a deliberately small edition.
Two ways of collecting the same visual universe.
One behaves almost like a living organism, accumulating new marks as it moves from collector to collector.
The other preserves the work in its original printed state.
Both are limited.
Both are signed.
Both eventually disappear.
